Tired of Hollywood’s lies? Well here is the truth.

So I stumbled upon this YouTube channel today. Channel, Station, Page…what is it called?! Oh, who cares.

These videos, while slightly offensive, really had me laughing. I love movies and would never bash most of these. (except Twilight, they deserved what they got) Still, you can’t deny that there is a little truth in these “trailers”. For me it even pointed out things I didn’t realize so in a way we can call this educational. You’re welcome.

We missed you yesterday. Hopefully you had the day off and took a moment to reflect on the life and message of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. You probably think this post is late but as the title of this blog suggests the words here are for EVERY DAY not just the third Monday of every January.

Now here are some awesome quotes from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr….

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”

“We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.”

“I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”

“A man who won’t die for something is not fit to live.”

“The time is always right to do what is right.”

“The quality, not the longevity, of one’s life is what is important.”

“Means we use must be as pure as the ends we seek.”

“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.”

“We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.”

There is no end to the powerful words spoken by Dr. King.  We would love to hear some of your favorite quotes so feel free to add them in the comments!

Go forth and love!

It’s gettin hot in hurr…

Well, it’s cold.

If my father ever taught me anything, it was the power of mind over matter. Granted, he would always follow that with the apparently ALWAYS funny “I don’t mind, and you don’t matter”.

While I’m not convinced it’s particularly applicable when hypothermia is at stake… here are some images to help your mind get over the matter. Really focus on these photos and soon you will forget that it’s 5 degrees outside and you’ll be burning up.

Hot Stove…

Hot Yoga…

I love quotes.

Maybe it’s because they inspire or because they provoke such strong emotions. Most likely it’s because nobody is right ALL the time. Quotes can summarize all the good a person has to offer without showing when things start to get dumb. They are a “best of” for people’s thoughts and words. Obviously, there are more than enough stupid people in this world to provide us with a equally steady stream of ridiculous quotes.

In my opinion, it is nice to be able to read a quote or two from someone and make up my mind about them. Who has time to really get to know someone anyway?! No sir. Just give me the highlights of what they said and I will take it from there.

Our newest quote poster will really get you thinking. Mark Twain has a way of getting to the core of the issue. We hope this poster is an inspiration for you today…

What’s your thing?

Design Studio, graphic design, LeMonkey House, Posters, Uncategorized

I’ve known for some time now that everyone has a “thing”. Admitting my “thing” isn’t really something I’m excited about but I’m hoping it will inspire you fellow weirdos to come forth and admit your “thing” too. I have always been fascinated by our little quirks. It could be anything, the way something sounds or feels, it may even be something you hate. I just want to know, what are the things that bring out your inner weirdo?

Ever since I was a young child I have had a thing for earlobes. There I said it. I know what you are thinking and no, they don’t turn me on. It is hard to explain but they are like two little fleshy security blankets that are attached to both sides of my head. So there it is folks, I rub my earlobes for comfort. I don’t do it in a creepy Mary Katherine Gallagher way where I have to shove my hands into my pits and then take a big deep whiff…

There is no way to make this “thing” of mine sound cool, or uncreepy but there it is. Out for all the world to see.

Here are just a few of the comfort quirks I have witnessed throughout the years…

– rubbing the side of the neck, just below the jawline

– rubbing tags together,  on blankets, shirts, or  pretty much anything and they have to feel a certain way apparently

– clenching fists

– making a weird circle shape with the middle and pointer fingers

– twisting hair, I know two people that do this one, and one of them had to have their head shaved after they twisted so much the hair fell out.

– hating corners, yet having to touch or rub them or cover them up

– rubbing top and bottom lip with the outside of the index finger in a specific pattern

I had a neighbor that would close his car doors and then run his hand down the seam of the door to make sure they were closed. Then I realized he also locked his front door 8 times, every time, so I am going to keep him off the list since he obviously has real OCD. Sorry.

Our little bumblebee of a boss Raygan has been hard at work lately. After taking some sick days I come back to the studio to find new designs, paper flying everywhere, and our fearless leader crying in the corner….

Okay, okay just kidding. Raygan is rocking Le Monkey Houses world. I’m starting to think maybe I should get sick more often because I am really diggin’ the new designs she has come up with.

One the Eve of the great Turkey Day.

What is it about Thanksgiving that makes me giddy with excitement?

No… it’s not just the copious amounts of food and a free ticket to be fat and lazy for a day… though, that’s not too shabby of a deal…

At the risk of sounding cheesy and rehearsed, Thanksgiving is a great day for family.  You know, that group of close family and unhealthily close friends that you are most comfortable with.  The ones that if I decide to wear slippers all day and choose to not do a thing with my hair, I know won’t judge me.  That, above all, is the greatest gift one can be given.  So in preparation of the Day of the Gobbler: I plan on doing an extra workout in the morning, brushing up on my poker skills (yes, that’s how we roll), and making some rockin’ baked mashed potatoes.

Football, cards, excessive amounts of food, fuzzy slippers (the target ones are the best…  L.L. Bean’s got nothing on those bad boys), and my strangely entertaining and wonderful family.  Seriously, what more could one ask for?

Can’t wait.

I hope you all have a lovely day tomorrow and enjoy the slower pace for a day.  Unless you’re in retail, then I’m so sorry.  We’re not Black Friday people… and never could be.  If I walked into one of those places on Friday, I would just be apologizing to all of the workers the whole time and not paying attention to the middle aged women fighting over the last copy of Fifty Shades of Gray.

Cheers, guys!  Here’s a hand turkey…

Happy Anniversary!

So we just completed a fun little project for some old friends that turned out to be a rather funny story…

About 2 weeks ago, an old friend, Matt, sent us a message through our Etsy shop where he asked about getting a custom designed print to give his wife for their five year anniversary.  Their wedding being a bit blurry by now, it was hard to believe that it had already been five years.   While it was great just to hear from our old friend, we were even more excited to help him with this cool little project as well.  So as we were hashing out what we wanted to use for his gift (being foodies, we decided on the names of the restaurants at which they had memorable meals) – I then got a Facebook message from Amy (Matt’s wife) asking for a custom piece to give Matt for their Anniversary.  My first reaction was similar to that of:  “Oh, s**t, what if they want the same thing… who’s bubble do I have to burst?”  Then, I calmly let her lead the way, which worked out great as she decided to go with one of our vintage book page designs featuring their wedding song – “Happy Everafter in Your Eyes” by Ben Harper – so I was immediately subdued in my freak out and decided this is going to actually work out.

So, to make it even more freaky Friday, they both even went so far as to order their final designs as 18×24 canvases.  Two people couldn’t be any more perfect for eachother… I mean, really… as they say great minds think a like and I know they got a little chuckle when they exchanged gifts realizing that they had essentially thought of the same exact gift (I know this because, as expected, I got an email to let me know how funny it was).  Adorbs.

“My head is spinning…I’ve got blisters on my fingers!”

I had to turn down the brightness on my computer screen. It is making my head feel fuzzy. I would like to take a long break from technology. No computer, no phone, nothing! Maybe then the little monsters crawling around inside my skull would go back to sleep. It would be nice to do anything that does not require a screen but, alas, I cannot completely sign off…yet…

We have been extra zombie like here at Monkey House lately. We are in the final stages of getting a new site up, completing new designs, and not to mention it is the holiday season! HEAD…MIGHT….EXPLODE.

I hope all of you out there in cyberworld are feeling good and enjoy our newest poster…Image
